     After six consecutive losing seasons, Mark Samson knows the pas few years have taken their toll on the Bison. So the first day of fall camp under the new head coach at Great Falls High was about establishing routine and structure. “That’s the way football has to be,” Samson said. “You just have to learn how to do a certain routine everyday. You have to be good at what you’re doing, but you have to follow a certain pattern."

Geyser’s Tyrell Smith is donating a portion of his winnings this season to childhood friend and fellow rough stock rider Chris Johnson of Iowa, who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for stage three testicular cancer.

    Melinda (Owen) Withrow, a Polson native, advanced to Sunday’s finals of the pole vault at the Olympic Trials at Hayward Field. Withrow, 31, cleared 4.35 meters in the qualifying round on Friday. She is one of 14 women who will vault on Sunday attempting to earn a berth at the Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. Jenn Suhr, the 2012 Olympic champion, has the top qualifying height of 4.50 meters. Sunday’s finals are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. (MST).

    Former Carroll College offensive lineman and executive vice president of the Cleveland Browns Bryan Wiedmeier passed away Tuesday. He was 57. Wiedmeier was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in October of 2012 and was given only 15 months to live. He would go on to live nearly four years after the initial diagnosis.

    You'll probably catch CMR cheering, "You better work! Yeah? You better work! Yeah" at every game they play. This past weekend, Rustlers did not lose a single game at the state softball tournament en route to a AA championship. So, it’s safe to say that they, indeed, did work.

    Back on April 18, the University of Great Falls softball team had just wrapped up divisional play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and with a .500 divisional record, it was still unclear if the team would make the six-school CCC playoffs. Wednesday, the Lady Argos were one of the last 20 teams in the nation still playing softball. 

    It was the team’s first season as full members of the CCC and the team reached the conference finals for the first time.

    At a benefit auction held at the Sting Sports Bar in Great Falls, Conrad High School principal Ken Larson, who spearheaded the “wear a cap” fundraiser, presented a check for $28,371 to a speechless Foster family.At a benefit auction held at the Sting Sports Bar in Great Falls, Conrad High School principal Ken Larson, who spearheaded the “wear a cap” fundraiser, presented a check for $28,371 to a speechless Foster family.

    Over the month of March students at 73 schools across Montana, paid $1 to wear a hat and support 1-year old Finnley Grace Foster from Havre in her fight with a rare immune deficiency condition.  Those dollars added up. 

    What started as a simple fundraiser to help a family in need quickly became something more.

Clancy’s three-day total of 232 was four strokes better than UGF’s Gina Kowolchuk (236). Lexi Pyette and Rachel Miles of Carroll College finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Pyette totaled a 253 while Miles was one stroke back at 254.
