Like traditional x-rays, these digital images are taken with the standard type of x-ray machine. The difference is with the cassette that is placed against your body. In the past the cassette had a piece of film inside of it that was processed inside of a dark room. With the digital x-ray system, after our nurse takes your x-ray, the cassette is inserted into a machine that removes the x-ray image off of a special plate inside the cassette. The image undergoes special processing and is then digitally sent to a computer screen inside our treatment rooms for you and your doctor to review. Our system will be able to process an x-ray image every 50 seconds.
One of the biggest advantages of digital x-rays is in the quality of the image. Compared to standard x-ray film, digital x-ray images are able to provide much finer and clearer detail. These new x-ray images will allow your doctor to more accurately evaluate and measure changes in bones and certain other tissues. The digital images are stored in a computer and can be retrieved at any time. Digital x-rays can be sent to other doctors over the Internet using a secure connection, or a hardcopy of the x-ray can produced for review.
