Five families finalized adoptions in a joy-filled ceremony in Great Falls on Tuesday.

The event marked the final time that retiring Judge Thomas McKittrick will preside over this annual ceremony.

Tears of joy filled the courtroom as five children officially became part of the families they've been with for at least six months.

Along with music, prayer, and a proclamation from Mayor Michael Winters, a birth mother spoke to the crowd about her experiences.

Later, Judge McKittrick shared a few words about what this celebration has meant during his lengthy career on the bench: "I know that this is a life-changing event. I'm very honored to preside over each and every adoption and even after thirty years, I'm very very thrilled to be here."

Organizers presented him with a plaque for his dedication to the ceremonies during his career.
