Downtown Great Falls is getting a splash of color from several artists this weekend.

The Great Falls Business Improvement District is overseeing the art project that will turn traffic signal boxes along Central Avenue into works of art.

Seven artists started the project on Friday and will wrap up their masterpieces on Wednesday.

The traffic boxes are along Park Drive all the way to 7th Street as well as an additional box at 2nd Avenue South and 2nd Street.

Artist Rachel Kaiser said, "The more art, the better, in every form. Public art is really important in building a community. I mean tourists come through the town, they see that we really love our community to the point that we take care of our artists."

The art project is part of an ongoing beautification effort for downtown Great Falls.

According to the Business Improvement District, the colorful boxes will enhance pedestrian and driving experiences by incorporating artwork into the street landscape.
