(September 20, 2013) Cody Christopher Little, the suspect in the Friday morning shooting that injured three people in Bozeman, has been charged with two counts of attempted deliberate homicide and one count of assault with a weapon.
Little is behind bars on $1,250,000 bail.
At around 4 a.m., Bozeman Police, MSU police, and Gallatin County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported shooting on Monroe Street and North Ferguson Avenue.
At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Bozeman Police Chief Ron Price said that Little used a 20-gauge shotgun and shot three men, all in their 20's, after an argument at party.
Price said, "I am proud of the citizens who had the courage to detain this person, but I am also very proud of the officers and the life saving measures that they took that I believe made a significant difference in the outcome of this."
Price added, "You know, alcohol was involved and I don't know to what degree it was a factor and I can't...I don't really have a motive for this...I mean it's one of those, how do you come up with a rational reason to shoot three human beings?"
One victim was hit in the abdomen and the other two were hit in the legs. All three were taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
According to court documents, Little attempted to fire a fourth shot; he aimed his rifle at the face of one of the men and pulled the trigger but there were no shells left in the gun.
Little later told police that he remembers firing rounds into the air but has no recollection of hitting people.
The man who was shot in the abdomen is listed in critical condition.
A second victim, shot in the leg, was taken to a hospital in Billings; a friend tells us they are fighting to save his leg.
The condition of the third person is unknown.
Little is a 25-year-old military veteran who served in Afghanistan, and most recently was employed as a landscaper.
