KRTV has learned that the body of a Great Falls teen has been found near Hardy Creek about 30 miles south of Great Falls.

Officials tell us the teen was with a group of friends when he jumped off some rocks at the popular water spot around 7:00 pm on Wednesday.

We are told his friends watched him go under, but he did not surface, and that's when Search & Rescue was called to the scene.

Crews spent much of Wednesday evening and all day Thursday attempting to find him. He was located by authorities at 4:10 pm, near the area where he disappeared.

Long-time residents in this canyon tell us they have come to expect this scene year after year, and crews combing the river say it's time to find a solution to prevent any more search and rescues stemming from this site.

Authorities told us that alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The identity of the teen has not yet been released.

I hope my teenager learns from this tragic event.  She recently tried "cliff jumping" and told me not to worry because nothing will happen. Well, now it did and I worry.
