Emergency crews responded to a wreck along US Highway 12 near Colorado Gulch west of Helena just after 2 p.m. on Friday.
The car ended up on the north side of the embankment along 10 Mile Creek.
The driver of the car, 30 year old Twila Bachteler of Deer Lodge, was transported to St. Peter's Hospital; the nature and extent of her injuries is not yet known.
Montana Highway Patrol officer Ben Havron says there were 10 to 12 people on scene including Sheriff's deputies, Baxendale fire crews and civilians.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
Havron said, "We don't know if it was a mechanical failure or if the driver just drove off the road or what happened. But it went down the embankment through the ditch, hit a tree, and then rotated counter-clockwise in a yaw and went down into the creek."
The car suffered significant damage.
A towing company came was dispatched to pull the car out of the ditch.
