Fair-goers in central Montana had to wait an extra week before heading to the midway in Lewistown this year for the Central Montana Fair, but the News Station's Ashley Korslien reports that the wait may have been well worth it for those looking to do a little business at the fair.
Marge Bendickson isn't a city gal, but she has a taste for fashion; she said, ""I have been sewing since I was 8 years old. Sewing isn't difficult for me." She loves clothes so much, in fact, that she made a career out of them.
And for 20 years, Montana Threads has been her pride and joy. But four years ago, Bendickson decided to expand her business, so she started a booth at the Central Montana Fair - and she wasn't the only one with that idea.
This year the fair has a record number of vendors, up 10% from just last year.
Dave Donaldson, general manager of the fair, noted, "We are full, we have got several outside, and our inside is up about five vendors this year. So we are excited about the new businesses and the returning business that came here this year."
Donaldson continued, "They share their information or their product. A lot of people save their money to come to the fair. And of course those same people are going to our rodeo or concert and the livestock exhibit, so it's a great mix."
And how are sales this year?
Bendickson noted, "Last year we were down about 20%, (but) this year our sales are back to normal. I think people have gotten their lives maybe back together, gotten some bills paid off that they needed to do."
