Dave Wilson has spent many years inside a radio booth, broadcasting to listeners across Big Sky country, and now he's trying a different approach to share his love of music.
Wilson is staying at home and taking on a new venture: internet radio.
After discovering that there was no live streaming radio station in Great Falls, Wilson saw a new opportunity ahead of him.
Wilson said, "I called a friend of mine and said, 'Hey, what would it take to build a radio station for the internet?' And he said, 'Well, it depends on what you're going to do," and I kind of explained that to him and he said, 'Yeah, that's possible.'"
So Wilson, his wife Cheryl and several close friends with extensive broadcast experience began developing a unique online radio station.
Wilson explained, "I wanted to do something that would keep me in touch with music but I didn't really want to go back to today's radio. I had my own ideas for what I wanted to do and this gave me the affordability to go in and do that."
And after launching the new classic country radio station online just a couple weeks ago, Wilson and his team are thrilled by the response from the public.
Wilson said, "We're picking up listenership all over the world and it's mainly due to the fact that a lot of this music, this classic country, you can't find anywhere else anymore."
Now in his 70s, Wilson says this new venture has brought renewed excitement into his life and is utimately what keeps him young at heart: "Rather than just sitting around and waiting for the truck to take us to the home, here we are breaking new ground more or less, you know, and that's the thing that is really exciting."
Wilson broadcasts classic country music 24 hours a day, and he does a live show weekday mornings from 6 am to 10 am.
