On Sunday, February 26th, the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls will celebrate the students who participated in the 43rd annual "I Like Charlie Russell Because" essay contest.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the museum, located at 400 13th Street North.
Essay contest winners will be awarded during the ceremony. The grand-prize winners of the contest from both county and city schools will then be announced and provided an opportunity to read their essays.
During this event, Great Falls Mayor Michael Winters will officially proclaim March as "Charlie Russell Month."
Each grand-prize winner will receive a U.S. savings bond courtesy, a framed Charles M. Russell print, certificate of participation, and supplies from Dick Blick Art Materials for the grand-prize winners' class to create a painted story quilt art project.
In addition, the grand-prize winners' teacher will receive a $50 gift card for additional Dick Blick Art Materials.
In a press release, CMR education and program coordinator Kim Kapalka noted, "The essay contest is great way to see students share their knowledge and excitement about Charlie Russell and relate his success to their own dreams. These Montana children are the ones to carry on the legacy of Russell and keep the art of the West alive."
Museum hours on Sunday, February 26, will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the winning essays will be on view through March.
