Due to the Davis Fire that is still burning, the U.S. Forest Service has closed Fool Hen Road (#1848) from milepost 0.0 - 3.72 (Stemple Pass Road to Gould Creek Road).
Exemptions to the closure include people with permits authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission; owners and lessees of land in the area; residents of the area, and federal, state, or local officers, or members of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
On Monday evening, officials said that the wildfire is now 50% contained.
A public meeting is scheduled for Monday night in Lincoln to advise area residents on the current fire situation. For more information contact the information office at the Davis Fire Camp, 406-368-5559.
(Monday morning update) The fire is still burning between Helena and Lincoln and is currently at approximately 2,180 acres and is 30% contained, according to authorities.
Unseasonably cool temperatures and moist air aided firefighters on Sunday, as crews mopped up fire lines and hot spots on all divisions. Fire managers were able to release more helicopters at the end of shift on Sunday leaving two helicopters to assist with bucket drops for the coming week.
On Monday, crews will continue to construct and improve fire lines and work on spot fires outside the fire perimeter with support from helicopters. Mop up is nearly complete on the west flank of the fire. The goal is for firefighters to extinguish any hot spots within 120 feet of the fire’s edge. More than 400 personnel are engaged in extinguishing the blaze.
All road and trail closures have been lifted, but fire suppression traffic will be heavy this week and motorists are urged to use extreme caution throughout the area.
