The Davis Fire burning 25 miles northwest of Helena is currently at 2,105 acres and is approximately 78% contained, according to officials, and there are currently 441 people engaged in battling the blaze.

Infrared equipment was used Tuesday to detect and map remaining hot spots near the fire perimeter. Despite windy, cold conditions, firefighters continued gridding and mopping up hot spots on both the north and south flanks of the fire. The west flank is contained and is in patrol status.

Firefighting resources will be shifted to the east flank of the fire to strengthen line and continue mop up with support from two helicopters.

Equipment, firefighters, and support personnel will start the demobilization process Wednesday and Thursday with the intent of returning the incident to the Forest for management on Friday.

The only closure in effect as of August 30 is the Fool Hen Road, FSR #1848 from milepost 0.0 to 3.72 (Stemple Pass Road to Gould Creek Road).

Fire suppression traffic will be heavy this week and all motorists are urged to use extreme caution.
