For one lucky little marmot, an elk named Shooter at the Pocatello Zoo in Idaho was in the right place at the right time.

The marmot somehow managed to fall into a water tank and couldn't get out.

Grabbing her camera and making her way toward the exhibit, Dr. Joy Fox witnessed the entire rescue unfold.

Fox said, "We thought he was just going to climb in the tank. He was sniffing and pawing and he kept shifting around and looking in the tank."

For 15 minutes Shooter circled the tank, eventually positioning his antlers and reaching into the water, grabbing the marmot; Shooter then set him on the ground, and began nudging him with his hoof.

Zoo employee Kate O'Connor said, "When we saw it down on the ground and he was nudging it and it was moving, we thought 'this is incredible.' He deliberately took that animal out of the tank."

After a little time in the sun catching his breath, the rescued marmot scampered home.
