A grass fire blazed through a small hillside on the east end of Great Falls on Sunday around 3:00 p.m.

It happened behind a neighborhood near 43rd Street and 14th Avenue South.

Larry Butler, Sand Coulee Fire Chief, says the fire started after some kids were setting off fireworks and trying to video tape it.

Nearby residents tried to put out the blaze using shirts and other clothing but the fire quickly spread.

Butler also said the fire charred about three-fourths of an acre. The fire was put out in about 45 minutes.

One bystander was treated for smoke inhalation; no structures were damaged.

The mother of one of the youths tells KRTV that the kids were filming a school project when a device they were working with sparked the fire.
