Entering the working world and finding your dream job can be intimidating, but for one Great Falls couple, the path less taken is turning out to be a wise career choice.
About one year ago John Mack graduated from college and was getting ready to enter the working world, but with the tough economy and high unemployment rates, the job search was daunting. John recalled, "I was scared out of my mind because I had just graduated with my bachelor's degree, moved back to Great Falls and realized, wow, college life is way easier than the working world and trying to find a job in this economy."
But John put his fears aside, and instead of looking for his dream job, decided to create one by offering web-design services to area businesses. But before John could make it a reality, he had to clear the idea with his wife, Elisha, who said, "He is passionate about everything he does and I thought, hey, this might actually work."
So John and Elisha took the idea and ran with it. The result was Volo! Web Design, a company that specializes in creative websites for other businesses.
But the young business owners had a few surprises waiting for them; John said, "So I figured businesses are going to be lining up to get these amazing effective websites, but that just wasn't the case."
And there is a disadvantage that the owners can not control: their relatively young ages. John said, "I have this age obstacle when I'm trying to get people to take me seriously."
But forward thinking and a never-ending work ethic has pushed Volo! Web Design to success, and now John can't imagine a better outcome for his aborted job hunt, stating, "This is the most liberating career choice I've ever made."

Web Extra: after the interview aired, we asked John about the name of his business, Volo! He replied to us via email:
I have always been intrigued by Latin, this strong, bold language that a lot of Western languages have their roots in. So, when I finally made this huge, scary choice to give up a full-time income and just go for it in the business world, I knew our name was going to be something in Latin. I just started looking at super-inspirational words like “passion,” and “to have heart,” “full-strength,” and phrases like that. The problem is that they were all REALLY long so I had to keep looking. Then I started looking at words like “excellent” and then I found “to fly” or “soar above”– volo!
