Construction crews, business owners, and home owners are preparing for the widening of a six-block stretch on 10th Avenue South.
The concerns of proprietors and property owners are being addressed through a series of meetings which kicked off on Tuesday.
Drivers have already been affected by work on 9th Avenue South, stretching from 17th Street to 27th Street; this work is being done to prepare for a large influx of traffic when the major project begins on 10th Avenue South.
The changes on 10th Avenue South will begin taking effect on April 1st.
Marvin Davis, the project superintendent, offered some advice: "Slow down, the speed limit is going to be 25-miles per hour. Keep a look out for equipment and other things so we can keep the accidents down. And if at all possible, find an alternative route because it will probably be congested."
Open meetings will be held at 10:00 a.m. every Tuesday at 1200 25th Street South to keep businesses and the public informed and up to date on the construction's progress.
Additional information about the project is available on the MT DOT website, including this brief summary:
The project will be constructed under traffic with access to businesses maintained at all times. Eastbound through-traffic will remain on two lanes on 10th Avenue South. Westbound 10th Avenue South traffic will be directed to 9th Avenue South between 17th Street and 27th Street.
All eastbound and westbound truck traffic will be detoured on existing routes away from 10th Avenue South and 9th Avenue South.
9th Avenue South will be converted to a westbound, two lane one-way street for the length of the detour. The project will include temporary signals on 9th Avenue South adjacent to 10th Avenue South traffic signals for traffic control.
