Hansen charged in Great Falls with helping father elude authorities

GREAT FALLS - Bert Hansen, accused of providing false information about the whereabouts of his father Gary Hansen, appeared in a Great Falls courtroom on Monday on a felony charge of obstructing justice.

His father is wanted on four counts of incest and one count of obstructing a peace officer.

Cascade County Sheriff's deputies say that Bert was first arrested in March for helping his father elude authorities.

He was out on bond for obstructing justice when deputies say they spoke to him on Friday; at that time, Bert reportedly said he hadn't seen or talked with his father since March.

Authorities, however, say that after Gary managed to once again avoid law enforcement on Friday, they found out he had been living with two senior citizens and their caregivers in the Clancy area south of Helena for several months.

Those caregivers say Bert had visited his father several times since March.

Court documents state that while Bert was out on bail, he violated the conditions of his bond by drinking alcohol and by driving while his license is revoked due to previous DUI charges.

Bert reportedly has had 11 other misdemeanors in several states.

The judge set his bail at $25,000, and ordered Bert to complete an alcohol monitoring program.
