Good Wednesday morning, hope your day is off to a great start.
A winter storm warning is in effect for elevations above 5,000 feet until 5 a.m. Thursday. Widespread snow for the Rocky Mountain Front, Little Belt and Big Belt mountains. Total snow accumulation of one to two feet possible for the Rocky Mountain Front. The Little and Big Belts could get 10 to 15 inches of snow. Good news for our ski areas!
Along with the snow, we're expecting strong winds today. A high wind warning in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Locations affected include Great Falls, Kings Hill Pass, Big Sandy, Fort Benton, Flesher Pass, Helena, Lincoln, MacDonald Pass, Rogers Pass, Shelby, Chester, Conrad, Fairfield, Stanford and Lewistown. Winds out of the west could gust to 65 miles per hour with sustained winds at 35 to 45 miles per hour. Beware of strong crosswinds for high profile vehicles.
In the lower elevations, expect rain showers for much of today. As cooler air moves in late this afternoon and this evening, we could see some of the rain showers transition to snow showers. Little accumulation is expected due to downsloping winds.
A weak ridge of high pressure brings partly cloudy skies Friday.
The break in moisture is short lived as another storm system arrives Saturday bringing snow to Central Montana.
