Ray Dolin of West Virginia, who claimed to have been shot near Glasgow on the Montana Hi-Line on Saturday, has confessed that the gunshot wound he suffered was actually self-inflicted.
Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier tells us that Dolin confessed on Thursday night to shooting himself.
Dolin, 39, claimed that he was hitchhiking along Highway 2 west of Glasgow on Saturday when the driver of a pickup truck pulled over and shot him in the arm and then drove away.
Authorities later arrested and charged Lloyd Christopher Danielson III, 52, for the incident; Danielson was arrested near Culbertson.
Sheriff Meier told us on Thursday that his office's investigation has "...unequivocally proven Danielson had no association with the shooting."
Dolin could face charges for the incident; Meier said that more information will be released on Monday.
Dolin has reportedly been working on writing a book about kindness in America.
Danielson is now in jail in Wolf Point on a DUI charge from Saturday night.
We will keep you updated.
