The legislative district covering Black Eagle and Northeast Great Falls will be represented next year by either a local business owner or a middle school teacher.
Republican Brian Hoven, owner of Hoven equipment, is the incumbent, and his challenger is Democrat Gary Lucero, a special education teacher at East Middle School.
We asked the candidates how the Legislature can bring more jobs into Montana communities.
Hoven said, "It's private sector investment that creates jobs and that's what we need to be encouraging, is private sector investment and of course not increasing taxes and watching regulation is the best thing that we can do."
Lucero replied, "We gotta look at our trades and industry. We gotta look at our tech schools. We gotta make sure that we're getting plumbers that are certified, electricians that are certified, and I think that's important for young adults to have the opportunity to go to trade school and get involved in that."
