Identity of body found along I-90 released

The body found along I-90 near the Fairmont exit on Wednesday morning has been identified of Elizabeth McGee, 47, of Anaconda, according to Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LaBreche.

The incident is under investigation, but it does not appear that it involves any criminal activity, said Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff John Walsh.

A motorist driving along the interstate reported seeing the body at around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Walsh. The body was discovered near mile marker 211 on I-90 between the Fairmont and Anaconda exists. A vehicle was found on the frontage road about ½ mile to the east of the Fairmont exit. Authorities believe the vehicle may belong to the woman.

The woman was fully clothed when she was discovered. Authorities believe the body had not been there for very long.

There was no one else in area when authorities arrived. Law enforcement officials from Butte-Silver Bow and the Montana Highway Patrol responded to the incident.

The coroner's office is taking the body to the state crime lab in Missoula, where an autopsy will be conducted.

We will provide more details as they become available.
