Montana lawmakers are considering tighter restrictions for the Medical Marijuana Act.
On Monday, a legislative subcommittee focused on issues affecting law enforcement, passing a motion to strike the "affirmative defense" clause from the act.
The clause allows people using medical marijuana illegally to go before a judge and cite their need for medical cannabis as a defense.
The committee also passed a motion that would restrict felons from working as medical marijuana caregivers, and require background checks for caregivers.
The draft changes will also require marijuana businesses to register with the state.
The Committee also wants to forbid people on probation or parole from having a medical marijuana card.
