Lewistown man in fatal crash identified

The man who died in a one-vehicle crash east of Lewistown on Saturday has been identified as Lee James Gibbs.

Fergus County Coroner Dick Brown released the information on Sunday evening.

Gibbs, 67, was the only person involved in the crash.

The Montana Highway Patrol responded to the incident just before 11 a.m. on Saturday near mile marker 109 east of Grass Range.

Troopers say Gibbs was heading east on Highway 87 when he drifted into a ditch; he over-corrected the vehicle causing his pickup to spin, then roll several times.

Officials say the vehicle came to a rest on its top.

The MHP says that Gibbs was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on scene.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the accident.

On Saturday morning, February 9, 2013, a one vehicle accident 25 miles east of Lewistown on U.S.
Highway 87 at approximately 11:00 a.m. claimed the life of Lee James Gibbs 67 of Lewistown. Mr.
Gibbs was alone in his vehicle at the time of the accident.

Grass Range Ambulance & Fire, Fergus County Sheriff's Dept., Montana Highway Patrol and Fergus
County Coroner responded to the accident.

This accident remains under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol and the Fergus County
Coroner's Office.
