Missoula will host what's being dubbed as the "Liberty Convention 2010" on May 21 and 22 at the Adams Center.
Organizers call it a gathering to celebrate conservatism, but some say it's a gathering of anti-government "patriots."
"Celebrating Conservatism clearly hopes to expand its influence by holding this event, and that isn't good for Montana communities," said Travis McAdam of the Human Rights Network.
He continued, "Celebrating Conservatism and its allies are already fracturing communities and creating environments where only those who yell the loudest and have the most weapons feel safe. These are not the indicators of a healthy community or democratic process."
A group from the Bitterroot Valley called Celebrating Conservatism sponsored the convention and hopes to draw participants from all over the country. Many followers prefer to carry firearms but weapons are not allowed on the University of Montana campus.
Speakers include Celebrating Conservatism founder Mona Docteur, Montana Shooting Sports Association founder Gary Marbut and 2008 Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin.
