Students in the carpentry program at MSU-Great Falls broke ground on Monday on their third home.

Joe Schaffer, the dean of the school, says that the college has refined its partnership with NeighborWorks this third time around, with each sides playing to its' strengths.

The educational program had to adapt some to meet the needs of NeighborWorks.

Ultimately, the relationship is expected to produce a higher-quality home.

Schaffer noted, "You know we're taking people, students that come to our program that are trying to start their lives and also trying to do things through higher education. So they're able to contribute and they see the value in investing in themselves but also investing back into the community and I think it's just a win-win."

Pat Schoenen, the cCarpentry program director, said, "We dropped from a two year program to a one year program which gives me more time to spend with these guys and girls. So I think that that's helping out a lot this year."

The home is expected to be completed in May; it will be sold to a low-income family through NeighborWorks.
