Documents released on Thursday provide additional information about an early-morning collision in Great Falls on Wednesday.
According to the police report, Wesley Capps was driving north on 15th Street and failed to stop at the red light at 8th Avenue North, and crashed into a mini-van. Witnesses estimated that Capps was driving between 60 and 70 miles per hour.
Both the driver and passenger of the mini-van sustained injuries; the driver was transported to Benefis with severe chest trauma, a lung contusion, broken ribs, and head injuries.
The responding police officer smelled alcohol on Capps' breath, and Capps admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the accident.
Capps agreed to a breathalyzer test, and the results indicated a blood-alcohol content of .159%, nearly twice the legal limit.
During Capps' initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon, he asked for his $50,000 bond to be lowered, but based on previous driving violations, the judge denied his request.
(March 10, 2010) Alcohol and speed are likely factors in an accident in Great Falls on Wednesday that left one person with life-threatening injuries.
Two vehicles collided shortly after 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of 15th Street North and 8th Avenue North.
A van carrying one passenger was struck in the middle of the intersection when a car driven by Wesley Capps ran a red light and hit the drivers' side door. Both vehicles were sent off the road knocking over an electric pole.
The driver of the van was transported to Benefis where he underwent surgery for serious injuries.
Capps, who received minor injuries, is now facing four charges, including felony negligent vehicular assault, reckless driving, and failure to stop for a red light.
The passenger of the van was also treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.
