GREAT FALLS - This week's "One Class At A Time" is all about stocking the book shelves of a kindergarten class at Lincoln Elementary School.
Jayci Braaten's class will get $250 toward new books, thanks to the weekly grant from KRTV and First Interstate Bank.
This is Braaten's first year teaching kindergarten, and she hopes to expand her collection of books to give students a greater variety.
Braaten says getting children excited about reading early on is essential to keeping them hooked throughout their educational career, and added, "The other piece of it is, the more materials that you have for kids to read, the better chance you will have for a kiddo to find something they are really excited about reading and have success with, and once they are hooked, they are life long readers."
Braaten plans to use the money through the Scholastic program, which will in turn earn her points to purchase more books.
Her goal is to make sure all her students can read and that they're excited about it before they finish kindergarten.
