GREAT FALLS - This week's One Class At A Time takes us to West Elementary School where a new math curriculum being implemented by the school aims to help students gain a greater understanding of the lessons.
First Interstate Bank and KRTV presented a $250 check to Stephanie Edwards, a 4th-grade teacher at West.
The check was given to her by Scott Anderson from First Interstate Bank amidst a crowd of cheering students.
Edwards applied for the grant two months ago and was very surprised that she won.
She plans on buying new math manipulatives such as cubes, base ten blocks, and measurement tools to help her students better understand their multiplication and division.
Edwards said, "The kids being able to touch all of these manipulatives and actually work with them really gets a better and deeper understanding for whatever that we're working on. Multiplication or division, fractions, everything."
She says that she wants all of her students to leave this year with a greater understanding of the math curriculum.
