Great Falls will soon be home to one of the largest fitness facilities in Montana, as the Peak Health and Wellness Center is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation that will add another 12,000 square feet of space.

One of the most notable changes will be the addition of a indoor family pool with a lazy river; there will also be more classrooms, parking, and equipment, and another mezzanine level of cardio machines.

Lynn Compton, director of the facility, noted, "This place is merely going to be a better vehicle to serve our community. With the obesity problem and our concern with obesity and sedentary lifestyle for children, we want the Peak to be the best vehicle that the community could have."

The center currently serves an estimated 6,000 members; Compton says after renovations she feels the facility could comfortably serve an additional 1,000 new members.

The expansion will mean added jobs in the aquatics department and the juice bar as well as a new concierge desk.

Compton says there may be a small rate increase to members to help cover costs, but the amount has not yet been determined; she noted that the Peak has only raised rates twice in eight years, and another increase would have been inevitable anyway.
