GREAT FALLS - People visiting the Sip 'N Dip in downtown Great Falls will find a little more excitement than usual at the world-famous bar this week, as "Piano" Pat Sponheim will be the subject of a profile on an upcoming "CBS Sunday Morning" TV show.
A crew from the show, including journalist Bill Geist, are in Great Falls this week to talk with Pat and get a feel for the unique tiki-like lounge, the legendary "mermaids" behind the bar, and of course Pat's signature musical style.
Pat has been playing at the bar for nearly 50 years, drawing in crowds from literally all over the world, and helping the Sip-N-Dip garner high praise from GQ magazine 10 years ago when it was ranked as the #1 bar on earth worth flying for.
The CBS crew captured her in action on Wednesday night and they'll be filming again over the next couple of days.
Sandy Thares, the general manager of the O'Haire Motor Inn where the bar is located, says that Pat deserves all the attention she's getting: "It's amazing what she has accomplished in her years, so any recognition that we can make sure that she gets, we're going to make sure that she gets it."
The CBS producer working on the segment says the feature is slated to air sometime this Fall.
