Student accidentally fires rifle in MSU parking lot

MSU Police Chief Robert Putzke said that a Montana State University student accidentally discharged a round from a rifle into the pavement of the North Hedges parking lot.
A passerby heard the shot and called police at around 4:15 pm on Tuesday.
Police responded and saw a person carrying a rifle in a case and questioned him.
The man admitted to accidentally shooting off the round.
The student is a hunter and it's his hunting rifle.
No charges are being filed.
