MSU-Great Falls hopes to inspire the next generation of healthcare leaders, and hosted its annual Healthcare Career Day on Wednesday.
With an overwhelming number of professions within the healthcare industry, it can be difficult for students to find their path; for high school students in and around Great Falls, the event was an opportunity to explore the industry and narrow down some of their options.
Macoy McLaughlin, a sophomore at CMR High School, noted, "It just shows me what I could have the potential to grow up and have when I want to be a physical therapist."
Geraldine senior Taylor Duvall said, "I want to go into obstetrics, but I don't know if that's for sure. So I wanted to see what else is out there besides that."
Students were given a glimpse into the healthcare industry with various demonstrations set up in the simulated hospital.
Tayler said, "It's awesome, it makes you feel like you're in a hospital, not just like learning about what they tell you it looks like, you actually get to see it."
While the hospital demonstrations seem like more fun than work, it inspires the students to look at their future in healthcare.
Event coordinator Charlene Marshall explained, "Our hope and our goal is to get them really excited about just healthcare in general, and go home after today and get excited and motivated to do some research to find out what maybe they'd be interested in."
Tayler and Macoy both have an idea of where their future will take them, but after seeing different careers in action and asking their questions, there are a few more options they'd be willing to consider.
Macoy commented, "An EMT, it'd just be interesting to have the daily challenge of something you do everyday."
And Tayler said, "They definitely made me think more about it...made me more educated."
