A tanker truck has flipped over on Montana Highway 35 near Burger Town in Bigfork, causing traffic delays.

Initial reports indicate that there were no injuries.

It is not yet known what caused the truck to flip.

Authorities are on the scene directing traffic and coordinating clean-up operations.

(From February 10, 2010) It was a couple of years ago that a tanker truck overturned, spilling more than 6,000 gallons of fuel into the ground and forcing evacuations along Montana Highway 35.

Following much public input and several traffic studies, the MT Department of Transportation (MDT) has launched a highway watch program in the Flathead.

"I would like to say we would all be homeless naked and hungry with out trucks" stated Montana Motor Carriers Vice President Spook Stang as he stood beside the MDT, local law enforcement and residents to get a message out.

They unveiled four signs posted on Highway 35, a known truck route, as well as on U.S. Highway 93, to get motorists watching out for unsafe driving behaviors. Spook knows trucks are the major focus, but the bottom line is every driver should be traveling with care.

"Everybody likes to hate a truck, but the truth is they are what delivers good to rural Montana."

Drivers are encouraged to call at anytime to report unsafe travel, and then six months later, DOT will review the comments and take action to solve the ongoing concerns about truck traffic on Highway 35.

The signs are being paid for by the general sign maintenance fund. They cost about $1,200 for all four, and the feedback left on that number you call is administered by employees working for 511.
