Accident investigators say the young adults killed in a weekend accident near Kalispell were both Flathead County residents, identified as 24-year old David Ampudia of Columbia Falls and 22-year old Shayla Marie Dunlap of Kalispell.

The pair were killed around 4:00 am on Sunday when their car hit a light pole and then struck an embankment.

Montana Highway Patrol troopers say that Ampudia and Dunlap were driving west on Highway 35 when their Subaru Legacy went off the road.

Troopers say the car went through a ditch and hit the light pole hard enough to snap it off at the base. The car kept going until it slammed into the bank.

Dunlap was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Ampudia was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center but died later from his injuries.

MHP says the circumstances of the wreck are still being investigated.
