UPDATES: spring storm closing roads, schools, more

The spring snow storm is affecting travelers, students, and many others in Great Falls and around north central Montana today. Here is a list of closures, alerts, and conditions that we are following; we will update the list as new reports come in. NEW: SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS ON US-89 - DUPUYER TO TWO MEDICINE CREEK BRIDGE FROM MILEPOST 75.5 TO MILEPOST 102

NEW: Northwestern Energy reports that crews from throughout the state are working to restore power to an estimated 5,000 customers in more than 20 rural areas of the state. If you have a power outage, you can call NWE at (888)-467-2669.

NEW: Power out in Stockett for several hours.

NEW: SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS ON US-89 - VAUGHN TO FAIRFIELD FROM MILEPOST 0 TO MILEPOST 23.4

NEW: ROAD CLOSED ON US-89 - WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS TO THE FOOT OF KINGS HILL FROM MILEPOST 0 TO MILEPOST 25.6

NEW: Highway 87 between Armington Junction and Lewistown is closed.

NEW: LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY FROM STANFORD TO EDDIE'S CORNER

THE JCT WITH US-87/MT-200 AND US-191S (EDDIES CORNER) TO GEYSER: ROAD CLOSED

GEYSER TO THE JCT WITH US-89 (ARMINGTON JCT): ROAD CLOSED

Power out on Gore Hill at Western Estates since about 10:00 a.m. UPDATE: power restored as of 12:50 p.m.

School in Power to be let out at noon.

Cascade County jail has lost electricity and is operating on backup power.

Racing at the Electric City Speedway for Saturday, May 1st has been canceled.

Great Falls High School - CMR High School softball canceled

The North Middle School field trip to MSU-GF has been canceled.

Centerville and Belt public schools have been canceled.

Power outages include some neighborhoods on the east side of Great Falls; the towns of Conrad and Stockett. Power has been flickering off and on in many communities, including Lewistown.

SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS ON US-89 - THE JCT WITH S-427 TO THE JCT WITH US-87/89E (ARMINGTON JCT)

DUCK LAKE ROAD CLOSED - BROWNING TO 12 MILES NORTH
