Van carrying GFHS wrestlers slides off road; no one hurt

Several members of the Great Falls High School wrestling team had a scare as they were returning from the state tournament in Billings overnight.

The van they were in slid off the road at about 1 a.m. on Sunday morning; fortunately, no one was hurt.

Great Falls Public Schools assistant superintendent Tom Moore says the van was following the team bus when it encountered icy roads and windy conditions.

The van hit a snow drift and slid off the road into a ditch on US 191 near Eddie's Corner.

Six student athletes were in the van, which was driven by one of the assistant coaches.

Moore says coaches on the bus called emergency responders who cleared all passengers for travel to Great Falls.

All parents were contacted from the bus last night and later on Sunday, GFHS administrators contacted each of the families of the student athletes to check on their well-being.

No citations were issued.
