ANACONDA - Jeremy Brent Cramer of Lacey, Washington, appeared in Anaconda-Deer Lodge Justice Court on Tuesday afternoon facing a charge of deliberate homicide for the death of his 4-year old son.
The incident began unfolding Monday night when Anaconda-Deer Lodge law enforcement officers were called to a convenience store at around 10:30 p.m. after a clerk reportedly saw a man trying to wash blood off his body and clothes in the restroom.
An investigation determined that Cramer had left Washington with his son, likely due to a custodial dispute.
Police found Cramer's vehicle five miles southeast of town on Montana Secondary Highway 569, but the child was not found at the time.
At daybreak on Tuesday, authorities began searching again and found the boy's body off of Mill Creek Road about five miles southeast of Anaconda.
At the request of Anaconda-Deer Lodge Police Chief Tim Barkell, agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation at the Montana Department of Justice are assisting with the investigation.
Cramer is scheduled to appear in District Court for a preliminary hearing on July 30th.
County Attorney Ben Krakowka asked for a high bond because he said there was nothing to keep Cramer in the county if he was released.
Judge Larry Pahut set bond at $250,000.
