Democrat Franke Wilmer of Bozeman has officially filed to run for Montana's sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Wilmer has served in the Montana House of Representatives since 2007.

Wilmer served on the MT House Committees on Education; Fish, Wildlife, & Parks; and State Administration. She is also a professor of political science at Montana State University, working her way up from being a waitress.

Wilmer said, "How far you've come from where you started matters. I like to say I pulled myself up from by my apron strings. But the fact is that I know the value of educational opportunities because I wouldn't have had them if there hadn't been Pell grants. I have paid my Pell grants back 100 times with my taxes from a better job."

Wilmer said that she is interested in issues relating to veterans, foreign affairs and energy development.

Wilmer is running against seven other candidates.
