Gallup has released a survey ranking the most conservative and most liberal states in the country, and the findings are enough to make Dick Cheney proud: His onetime home state of Wyoming tops the list of most conservative states.
Mississippi came in a close second, also with 53% self-identified conservatives. The rest of the top 10 of conservatism, in descending order: Utah, South Dakota, Alabama, North Dakota, Idaho, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Louisiana.
On to the other side of the political spectrum: Topping the list of self-identified liberals is the District of Columbia, at 42%, followed by four New England states: Rhode Island (32%), Connecticut (29%), Vermont (29%) and Massachusetts (28%).
Rounding out the top 10 are Colorado, New York, Oregon, Washington and New Jersey.
And how did Treasure State residents identify? Montana residents checked in solidly in the middle of the rankings, with 38% self-identifying as conservative, with 40% identifying as moderate and 18% identifying as liberal.
