HELENA - Nursing leaders from all over the state met in Helena on Monday at the Great Northern Hotel to discuss the future of the nursing practice.

About 100 attendees explored issues such as transitioning new graduates into the nursing practice, the use of simulation in nursing education, and partnerships between nursing schools and practices.

Guests heard from some representatives from national organizations, including the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Event organizers say the summit is a gathering place for nurses from all sectors -- hospitals, nursing homes, community-based settings, and nursing schools -- to network and to share information.

"Each sector needs the other to provide feedback to the other,” said Dr. Casey Blumenthal, vice-resident of the Montana Hospital Association. "What's going well, what could be improved, how can we work on this issue? So this is a really neat kind of way to gather everyone together."

The conference continues on Tuesday.
