GREAT FALLS -

The Women's Foundation of Montana hosted a conversation in Great Falls on Thursday about the economic status of women in Montana.

The "lunch and learn" event was held at the Mighty Mo on Central Avenue.

Not only is the group trying to build economic security for women, but they are also trying to build a brighter future for girls.

Women's Foundation of Montana program director Jen Euell says one of the biggest issues women face is not being able to get paid leave for when they or family members are sick.

"We just don't have a lot of support in that situation, so oftentimes what that means for them is either they don't take a job that they would have otherwise, so sometimes they have to quit or be fired. Their families are kind of the priority and they need to take care of that. So we are trying to figure out as a state that we can better support women in that area,” Euell said.

The group also talked about their new state-wide program called Powerhouse Montana.

The site is an online resource that anyone can join to not only network but also find mentors.
