Conrad-Choteau, Great Falls Central among top B-C softball teams

Posted: Updated:

In 2014, the Conrad-Choteau softball team were state runners up. In 2015, they mercy ruled Ronan to capture the co-op’s first ever state title. In 2016, they’re back on the field and have sights set on going back to back. It’s easy to set goals that high when your roster boasts arguably the best pitcher in the state. Tristin Achenbach is only a junior and continues to dominate teams on the mound. Her importance to the team, is hardly lost on her coach.

“When she can strike out 18 girls a game on average, we're going to be in every game,” said mentor Mick Morris. “The confidence we have and the confidence that our girls have goes a long ways.”

Meanwhile, the Great Falls Central Catholic Mustangs are also primed for a great season. At the Cut Bank Jamboree the Mustangs went 3-0 with wins over the host team, Shelby and Browning. Central scored 42 runs in 10 innings, including a 24-1 drubbing of Class A Browning. The Mustangs made the state tournament last year in their inaugural season. This year, the goals are even higher.

“That’s always the goal is to make it as far as you can,” said senior Hanna Tarum. “I think we definitely have the talent to maybe play for a state championship this year.”
