Lady Griz sweep Carroll College softball Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA – The Carroll College softball team suffered back-to-back losses against the University of Montana on Tuesday, 11-1 and 10-0.

Game one saw the Lady Griz score five runs in the first two innings before exploding for six more in the third. Sydney Stites had four RBI for UM. Bethany Olea and Madison Saacke added two each.

Carroll’s lone run came from short stop Justine Taylor on a sacrifice fly to left field. Paige Blake tagged and scored from third base for the Fighting Saints.

The nightcap was more of the same as Montana scored twice in the opening frame before an eight run outburst in the fourth inning would eventually end the game. Saacke knocked in three runs, including the first two of the game. The designated player went a combined 3-6 with five RBI in the Lady Griz victories.

Carroll mustered only two hits – a Madison Soper single in the second and an Allison Bayer single in the third – as UM pitcher Maddy Stensby struck out four Fighting Saints to earn the win. Tess Eaton – who threw the first no-hitter in Carroll history Saturday – took the loss for the Fighting Saints.

University of Montana head coach Jamie Pinkerton reached a milestone Tuesday, earning his 300th career win.

Tuesday’s contests were exhibition games for Carroll College and will not affect the team’s record. The Saints play at UGF on Saturday before hosting the Lady Argos Sunday at Centennial Park.
