GREAT FALLS -
Workers and volunteers at The Maclean Animal Adoption Center celebrated "National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day" today with their furry friends who are still looking for their forever home.
The Animal Foundation raised funds to build the Maclean Animal Adoption Center, which opened last summer in Great Falls with the mission of providing shelter for animals and facilities in need while educating pet owners through programs and services.
However, the biggest mission of the facility is to find permanent homes for shelter animals in north central Montana.
Shelter officials say there are many reasons to adopt, ranging from cost efficiency to ending puppy mills and protecting the animals already in need of homes.
Since it's start, the adoption center has been able to find homes for roughly 150 cats and over 110 dogs that have been transferred from other facilities in the state or turned in.
"We have a transfer program, so we're going actually down to Dillon to get some more dogs that are looking for their homes and hopefully we can help them here find their forever home," said Marketing & Development Coordinator Erin Doran.
A project currently underway at the Center is "Change Their World"; the adoption center has made several of their own growlers, however, instead of filling them with beer, the Center hopes they are returned filled with loose change that will go towards benefiting the animals.
The growler locations are scattered throughout various businesses locations and classrooms in Great Falls. However, to donate directly to the Maclean Animal Adoption Center, click here: http://macleananimaladoptioncenter.org/.
