A woman died after being hit by a vehicle on Wednesday in Yellowstone National Park.

Park officials say a 47-year-old woman from Texas stopped to watch an eagle and stepped in front of another vehicle when the incident happened.

The accident happened about five miles east of West Yellowstone, in the westbound lane of the road from West Yellowstone to Madison Junction, at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

People at the site of the accident immediately began CPR and park rangers arrived within minutes, but the woman was declared dead at the scene.

No citation was issued to the driver of the vehicle that hit the woman.
