Trase LeTexier and Jace Lewis join forces in all-star game before teaming up in Missoula

BILLINGS – All Star Games have a tendency to turn longtime enemies into fast friends.  If you watch South linebackers Trase Letexier and Jace Lewis this week – two District 5B rivals – that’s exactly what it looks like.  But they have a secret.

“We were best buds since sophomores, freshman,” LeTexier said.

“We’ve been friends for 4 years, seems like we’ve played together for 4 years,” added Lewis.

LeTexier and Lewis, which sounds like the next great buddy cop movie, finally get to lace up the cleats together this week, a preview of what’s to come in Missoula.

“Great fun to play on the same team, this is what it’s going to be like the next 5 years of our lives,” LeTexier said.

“We’ve always talked about how we wanted to play together, that’s why we went to the Griz together or wherever we were going, it should be really fun being on the same side,” said Lewis.

LeTexier starred at Boulder as a dominant defensive end – often times trying to stop Lewis, who was a state championship winning quarterback at Townsend.  But Friday night, the two will assume their new positions – next to each other at linebacker.

“It was nice to hear, now we don’t have to go against each other,” said LeTexier.  “We tackle people together, hit people together.”

Now, that friendship is blossoming into a fierce partnership.

“When we went over for the recruiting trip, we all get along, we all want to win,” Lewis said.

LeTexier and Lewis, along with the rest of the Class B all-stars, will lace up the cleats on Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Daylis Stadium. The Class B all-star game has traditionally been a Saturday afternoon kickoff at Rocky Mountain College, but renovations to Herb Klindt Field give athletes another game under the lights.
