Carroll basketball's Carr is making a difference through a different kind of traveling

“He definitely has a strong faith and is motivated through that to do stuff like this big time. I mean he volunteers at hospice,” said Carroll Men’s Basketball Head Coach Carson Cunningham of junior Oliver Carr.

Carr has just returned from Uganda, where he joined the Montana Dental Outreach team to give much needed aid to the country.

“I ended up learning about a new culture,” said Carr. “Ended up learning a lot about dentistry. And ended up learning that I really want to help people for the rest of my life.”

The 6'6" 205 lb junior averaged nine points and averaged 58% from the field during his sophomore campaign. He believes that his experience in Africa, will translate to the court next season.

“I learned a lot about patience over there.  Obviously there is a language barrier and you really have to work with patients slowly and really try to understand what they're saying.  And so, just that patience aspect, I think I could apply to my leadership skills on the team and that would essentially make me a better basketball player.”

“He's just an extremely neat young man,” said Cunningham. “Someone that I look up to in a lot of ways, even though I coach him. Huge heart, fantastic family, and anybody at any point in their life, could learn from his approach.”
