(JUNE 14, 2016) The Flathead County Sheriff's Office has confirmed a man has been arrested for deliberate homicide.

Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Lieb says a body was found in a ravine under a log along Peters Ridge Road near Echo Lake in Northwest Montana on Monday.

Lieb says they have arrested Robert Matthew Wittal, 29, of Kalispell, who is being held in the Flathead County Jail on charges of deliberate homicide.

“On Monday morning a gentleman came into the sheriff’s department with his aunt and stated that he had some information regarding a homicide that may have taken place over the Memorial Day weekend," Lieb said. "After interview by detectives, he went with detectives to a location up along the Peter’s Ridge Road. During the search detectives found the body of a 35-year-old male in the creek.”

The initial investigation indicated that the male was stabbed multiple times. Lieb says the victim's name is not being released at this time as they continue to notify family.

Undersheriff Lieb tells us the investigation will continue as there could likely be others involved in not only this, but other crimes.
