Five Central Montana football players prepare for Can-Am Bowl

Posted: Updated:

While most of us enjoy the July Fourth weekend, in an ironic twist five central Montana six-man football players are in Canada.

Box Elder’s Shane Ketchum, Tri-City's CJ Stevenson, North Star’s Gavin Spinler, and DGS’ Kade Woodall and Kendall Carpenter are five of the eighteen American players playing in the Can-Am Six-Man bowl game.

The team is also led by Tri-Cities Head Coach Jake Stevenson.

The boys are very proud to represent their country on such a large scale.

"It means quite a bit," said Carpenter. "It’s kind of crazy to think when I was little, watching the Olympics and stuff.. I mean obviously it’s not quite the same level but it’s definitely cool to think that you are actually a part of a team that your country put together that’s playing another country. That’s pretty neat."

"Probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to do in my whole life," said CJ Stevenson. "It’s no longer playing for my own stats or playing for my team in Tri-Cities. It’s representing something on a bigger scale and that is my country."

The Can-Am Bowl takes place at 8 PM in Hafford, Saskatchewan on Tuesday. To watch the live stream go this this link. To find out more about the history of the CanAm Bowl visit their webpage.
