Aragon moves on at Olympic Trials

EUGENE, OR -- Christina Aragon is moving on to the semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The Billings Senior graduate finished third in the first preliminary heat of the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:14:06. 

University of Michigan track star Amanda Eccleston won the heat with a time of 4:13:82.

Alexa Efraimson, who just beat Aragon at the U.S. Junior Nationals, finished 7th at 4:14:40. She advances to the semifinals by having one of the next six fastest times.

The top six from each of the three heats, plus the next six fastest times all advanced to Friday's semifinals.

The semifinals feature two heats of 12 racers. The top three finishers once all is said and done on Sunday qualify for the Olympics.

Aragon is scheduled to race right around 6:03 p.m. Montana Time on Friday.

The Stanford commit entered with the 22nd-fastest time in the field having posted a personal best of 4:09:27. That is the fastest time by a high school runner.

The top two seeds in the field are the only runners to have posted sub-four-minute times. 

Jennifer Simpson has a personal best of 3:57:3, while Shannon Rowbury comes in just over a second faster at 3:56:29. Both are two time Olympians and have advanced to the semifinals.
